Yesterday evening, I watched the first two episodes from the new Starz’s (American network) show: “Spartacus: Blood and sand”.
Actually the first thing that comes in my mind after almost two hours of pilot is that somebody has been watching 300 in repeat mode for the last year or so.
The show itself is not bad but who can compete with kirk douglas in his prime shirtless huh??? I guess that’s what the producers thought as well and that’s why they went the Leonidas way:
Cartoon blood, head chopped off on the battlefield, spears, swords and other handy phallic symbols and a little bit of naked girls thrown in the middle (I guess that’s the part of the trailer that got me into watching this!)
To resume, I’d say it’s like Gladiator meets 300 but with way more sex, nudity, and blood (and swearing): approved!
Ps: for the Xena fans, you’ll even get a Lucy lawless topless moment (Recession ain’t all bad heh!)
